Dry skin is a common side effect of cancer treatments.
- It is important to have your skin in good condition before starting your treatments, during and after.
- Hydration is imperative.
- Dry skin is prone to be itchy, scratched, and easily torn. This makes it more susceptible to infection and takes longer to heal.
- Tell your doctor if you develop rashes, sores, or other areas of concern, or if your skin changes.
Radiation Therapy
- Radiation, like sunburn, sometimes causing blistering, so it is important to keep your skin hydrated.
- Hives can occur for a short period, as can swelling.
- If severe swelling or edema develop, notify your physician immediately!
- If your tongue swells it can affect your airway and create breathing difficulties. This is generally caused by a drug reaction, not radiation. Seek immediate help!
TIPS for both Chemotherapy and Radiation Therapy
- Use products that are fragrance-free, paraben-free, petroleum-free, alcohol free, and as natural as possible. Harsh soaps can strip oils and water from your skin. Choose a soap with added moisturizers such as oatmeal, shea butter, coconut oil, aloe vera, glycerin or goats milk. Rose hips are also good.
- Check the ingredients in laundry soap. Select gentle, fragrance – free products. Avoid dryer sheets that have fragrance and artificial ingredients.
- Avoid abrasives such as body brushes, mitts, and abrasive soaps.
- Avoid extreme temperatures. Hot water is dehydrating and strip oils. Take shorter baths and showers and watch the temperature, and no hot tubs.
- Some drugs used in chemotherapy can make your skin more susceptible to sunburn. So, after chemotherapy, protect your skin with SPF sunscreen 30; wear a hat, scarf, and long sleeves.
- Avoid tanning booths.

- We suggest applying it immediately after drying off after a shower. Easy to use and apply, no need to rub. Spray your hand and gently wipe on to areas in need. Spray your back too!
Why petroleum-free? Petroleum products are greasy and seal in moisture as well as bacteria, and fungi, and are ultimately dehydrating. They seem good in the short term, but must be frequently reapplied. Because they stay on the skin’s surface, they don’t improve dryness over time.
Skin-lasting replaces moisture lost. skin-lasting sprays on and is quickly absorbed by the skin to restore high moisture levels.
Testimonials
“I was diagnosed with advanced acute myeloid leukemia in February, 2014 and started treatment immediately. In the hospital cancer ward they use Hepa filters which made the air very dry. Between that and intense doses of chemotherapy, my skin took a beating. I used skin-lasting every morning and evening, and my skin felt so soft and it also gave me a glow. Everyone told me how great my skin looked and that I looked so healthy. I give skin-lasting all the credit. I am still having outpatient chemo for a week once a month and continue to use skin- lasting to keep my skin feeling and looking healthy.” Judy F. TX
I had breast cancer and was given radiation. I have been a long time user of skin-lasting and asked my radiologist if I could use it. He suggested a cream that was the same one my friend used ineffectively and then she used skin-lastingwith great results. I started using it before and during and certainly after my 4 weeks of treatments and my skin held up beautifully. I had one tine place I thought was starting to develop due to me not getting it on that area 2X daily. It healed in a matter of two days. Signed another happy user. Keep up the good stuff! Susan S. NJ
I have been diagnosed with three types of cancer, including lung cancer, and I have been undergoing chemotherapy and radiation. I had known of skin-lasting and decided to try it especially for the radiation areas on my back. To my amazement, it really helped. Now, if I forget to use it, my husband reminds me because it makes my skin so soft and stops the dryness. Lorraine S. Atlanta, GA
Heidi, my daughter with Leukemia, is doing very well with her skin/rash issues. Her rash is now gone and I only have to use the skin-lasting sensitive formula mixed with a little water to help keep her face, arms and legs hydrated. Now if I could just get the ear infections to go away she’d be in stellar form! I love using the regular skin-lasting on my legs which is where I usually get all scaly during the winter months. I was a bit lax and sure enough my shins developed a rash again, but the skin lasting cleared it up in a few days. I just have to learn to be as diligent with my own skincare routine as I am with Heidi’s. How are you doing with promoting skin lasting in the oncology world, you need to. Amy, NH
“I am a cancer survivor. I survived my treatments; chemo, radiation and then surgery. I found skin-lasting and used it religiously. I ran into a friend that I hadn’t seen in a while and she said, “Oh my gosh, you look fabulous. Really! You look beautiful!” It’s the skin-lasting I use, I told her! Annie M., Breckenridge, CO.
Just wanted to tell you that the skin-lasting product has really improved my skin. I am a 11 year cancer patient that takes medication that dries my skin up severely, the skin-lasting product has really helped. Brett, NC
